Before and After Treatment
Wrinkles develop when there is a deficit in the integrity of the dermal tissue through wear and tear. When the breakdown of tissue exceeds the tissues ability to repair itself a deficit occurs. Superficially these are seen as wrinkles on or in the skin and in the deeper tissue this is displayed as folds, volume loss or deflation of the face.
As we age tissue breakdown occurs through all levels of facial tissue, epidermis: fine lines, dermis: deeper lines or folds, subcutaneous fatty layers: volume loss or deflation and bone thinning which increases considerably after menopause. As collagen fibres in the skin breakdown elasticity loss occurs resulting in stretching and looseness of the tissue.
Fillers can be used to replace this lost tissue at all levels of loss. Various fillers are designed to mimic facial tissues enabling us to replace like with like. The fillers act exactly like the lost tissues and therefore allow a natural, youthful look to be restored. Gel fillers replace the gel matrix of the facial tissues and collagen regeneration and elasticity increase can occur with bio-stimulation products.
Some fillers provide an instant result and some create stimulation and a delayed response through tissue growth. Both categories are helpful in filling lines and wrinkles and replacing volume loss. All fillers are injected into the facial tissue using fine needles. The appropriate filler is laid into the area where the deficit needs repair and this fills and corrects the wrinkle, line or volume loss instantly or over a few months.
Fillers come in varied thicknesses that can be used from very superficial to deep. Correct and accurate placement of the correct product in the correct plane will directly affect your outcomes. It is best to discuss options with your practitioner thoroughly and reach an agreement on the best options for you. Often different thicknesses of fillers are used in combination to achieve the best results or instant and stimulating fillers are used together to achieve the best results.
The new thicker facial volume gel fillers have allowed us to progress towards more & more face lifting, eye lifting and facial balancing. Due to their increased longevity they have made these volume restorations much more viable to patients. Down time from filler injections should be planned for although rare as bruising post treatment cannot be completely out ruled. Our unique anaesthetic options have decreased the bruising from filler treatments to very rare.
